Numerical simulation of viscoelastic fluid–structure interaction benchmarks and their application to the human eye

Abstract We present a numerical solution method for time-dependent viscoelastic fluid–structure interaction employing the arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian framework. The derived monolithic variational formulation is discretized in time using shifted Crank–Nicolson scheme and space finite element method. For linearisation we employ Newton’s with exact Jacobians. fluid modelled either Oldroyd-B or Burgers-type model. elastic structures are non-linear hyperelastic materials. validate implementation on benchmark problems numerically analyse convergence global mesh refinement adaptive dual-weighted residual Furthermore influence of viscoelasticity typical goal functionals like drag, lift displacement. applied to ophthalmology where vitreous its surrounding structures.
