چکیده
The breakup of non-Newtonian droplets is ubiquitous in numerous applications. Although the property can significantly change droplet process, most previous studies consider Newtonian droplets, and effects properties on process are still unclear. This study focuses secondary shear-thinning by numerical simulation. volume fluid method used to capture interface dynamics adaptive grids. To compare a new definition Ohnesorge number proposed considering characteristic shear rate induced airflow. results show that compared with fluid, effective viscosity distribution inside droplet, alter local deformation, morphology, affect transition regime.

Numerical investigation of thermal mixing of shear thinning fluids in one-way opposing jets
In recent years, impinging streams have received increasing interest for their high efficiency in heat and mass transfer. This numerical study was conducted to investigate flow and heat transfer characteristics of one-way opposing jets of non-Newtonian fluids. Effects of Reynolds number impinging angle, momentum ratio and flow behavior index on mixing index were evaluated. The results showed im...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of particle encapsulation due to liquid thread breakup
The capillary instability of a liquid thread containing a periodic array of particles along the centerline is considered with reference to micro-encapsulation. The Navier–Stokes equation for axisymmetric flow inside and outside the thread is solved using an immersed boundary method implemented on a boundary-fitted orthogonal curvilinear grid that conforms with the particle shape. Numerical simu...

Coalescence and Breakup of Oppositely Charged Droplets
The coalescence process of oppositely charged drops for different electrical conductivities of liquids is presented. When the electrical conductivity was relatively low, oppositely charged drops failed to coalesce under sufficiently high electrical fields and capillary ripples were formed on the surfaces of droplets after rebound. For a high electrically conductive liquid, it was found that a c...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of breakup of a viscous drop in simple shear flow through a volume-of-fluid method
A spherical drop, placed in a second liquid of the same density, is subjected to shearing between parallel plates. The subsequent flow is investigated numerically with a volume-of-fluid ~VOF! method. The scheme incorporates a semi-implicit Stokes solver to enable computations at low Reynolds number. Our simulations compare well with previous theoretical, numerical, and experimental results. For...
