چکیده

In an earlier research, experimental evidence was given on the ability to use Piezo Wafer Active Sensors and acousto-ultrasonics monitor accumulation of fatigue damage in a thick composite structure. As next step, numerical models are investigated as they aid further understanding governing phenomena quantification accumulated damage. However, suffer from high computational demands, due mesh density, stochastic nature crack initiation combination propagation cracks. The Polynomial Chaos Expansion (PCE) method is employed efficiently make meta and, with these models, account for behaviour formation delaminations. The thus allow predicting overall effect accumulations within certain bounds uncertainty. This aids accumulation, hence allowing severity estimation based results. The input PCE 2D Finite Element (FE) model. Cracks delaminations generated using Random Variables (RV) describing geometrical position length orientation. Moreover, number cracks randomized well. necessary remeshing done automatically, completely automated simulation large FE simulations feed model.Several Quantities Interests (QoI) defined tested against their sensitivity increasing amount accumulation. A global analysis used identify importance each Variables. variables low can be eliminated analysis, improving efficiency.

Numerical modelling of thermal decomposition processes and associated damage in carbon fibre composites

Thermo-chemical degradation of Carbon Fibre Composite materials (CFCs) under intensive heat fluxes has been modelled. The model couples together heat diffusion, polymer pyrolysis with associated gas production and convection through partially decomposed CFCs, and changes in transport properties of the material due to the damage. The model has been verified by laser ablation experiments with con...

Lamb wave assessment of fatigue and thermal damage in composites

Among the various techniques available, ultrasonic Lamb waves offer a convenient method of evaluating composite materials. Since the Lamb wave velocity depends on the elastic properties of a structure, an effective tool exists to monitor damage in composites by measuring the velocity of these waves. Lamb wave measurements can propagate over long distances and are sensitive to the desired in-pla...

The Effect of Tension-tension Fatigue and Lay-up Configuration on Damage Accumulation in Carbon/epoxy Composites

The effect of tension-tension fatigue (T-T) on carbon/epoxy composites (CFC) has been investigated in this paper. Load controlled fatigue tests were conducted in the tension-tension (T-T) cyclic mode with the R-ratio values of 0.1 and 0.3 and subsequently the specimens with the fatigue life over 10 cycles have been studied by means of tensile testing, ultrasonic inspection and quantitative data...

Modelling of Damage Evolution in Braided Composites: Recent Developments

Composites reinforced with woven or braided textiles exhibit high structural stability and excellent damage tolerance thanks to yarn interlacing. With their high stiffness-to-weight and strength-to-weight ratios, braided composites are attractive for aerospace and automotive components as well as sports protective equipment. In these potential applications, components are typically subjected to...
