چکیده

Abstract Due to their multiple uses and structural challenges they outline during normal circumstances seismic events, retaining walls constitute an important concern for civil engineers. Design of these structures requires accurate determination lateral earth pressure under various conditions. Considering the dynamical action excitation, total cohesion-less soil backfills is often estimated by using Mononobe-Okabe method. Although this conventional method does not take into account full characteristics a seism, it has recovered wide range applications in practice. It interesting therefore compare its predictions those more comprehensive analysis. In study, dynamic numerical modelling reinforced concrete gravity with backfill material was conducted PLAXIS 2D software. Loma Prieta earthquake record applied different values wall height stiffness were considered. Parametric studies accomplished order assess influence key parameters on vertical profile active resultant thrust. A good agreement between numerically computed force acting obtained comparison approach; however last may yield oversizing.

Simulation of Nonlinear Seismic Response of Reinforced Concrete Structural Walls

In this study the performance of three macro-models in predicting the nonlinear response of different walls is investigated. The macro-models used are: Equivalent Beam Model, Multiple Vertical Line Element Model and a shear panel model developed by Massone et al. (2006). The walls are classified as slender, intermediate, and squat walls according to their shear-span ratio. First, three single w...

Cracking of Concrete Cover in Frp Reinforced Concrete Elements under Thermal Loads

Synopsis: The effects of thermal loads on the structural performance of FRP reinforced concrete elements are analyzed in this paper. The difference in transverse coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) between FRP and concrete causes the presence of tensile stresses within the concrete and, eventually, the formation of cracks when the temperature increases. As part of an inter-university experim...

Seismic Response of Reinforced Concrete Columns

There are a large number of reinforced concrete buildings in seismically active areas of the world that are not built in accordance with modern seismic design provisions such as those published by American Concrete Institution ([ACI] Committee 318, 2008). In the United States and other parts of the developed world, these buildings were constructed between 1930s to mid 1970s according to the bui...
