چکیده
Cellular materials, such as aluminum foams, have proven to be excellent energy absorbents. They can used crushable core in sacrificial cladding (SC) for blast load mitigation. In this study, the absorption capacity of a brittle mineral foam-based SC is investigated through finite element modeling using LS-DYNA software. The experimental set-up consists rigid steel frame with square cavity 300 mm x center structure protected simulated by thin plate clamped into frame. generated 20 g C4 high explosive set at distance 250 from plate. considered evaluated comparing maximum out-of-plane displacement and without protective foam. presence foam reduces least factor two. modeled both solid elements smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (SPH) Fu Chang's constitutive material law based exclusively on results quasi-static compression tests phenomenological relationship between stress, strain rate. SPH model predicts an average relative error 5% respect values.

Traumatic brain injuries have recently been put under the spotlight as one of the most important causes of accidental brain dysfunctions. Significant experimental and modeling efforts are thus underway to study the associated biological, mechanical and physical mechanisms. In the field of cell mechanics, progress is also being made at the experimental and modeling levels to better characterize ...
متن کاملNumerical Crashworthiness Analysis of Graded Layered Foam- Filled Tubes Under Axial Loading
In this article, the results of a study on energy absorption characteristics of foam-filled thin-walled structures with finite element analysis have been presented. Four specimens of thin walled structures have been filled with uniform foam and three specimens have been filled with linear four-layered foam. Also, eight layers HLH (High-Low-High) and eight layers LHL (Low-High-Low) have been sim...
متن کاملNumerical modeling of primary thoracic trauma because of blast
Purpose: Since explosive blasts continue to cause casualties in both civil and military environments, there is a need for an understanding of the mechanisms of blast trauma at the human organ level, plus a more detailed predictive methodology. The primary goal of this research was to develop a finite element model capable of predicting primary blast injury to the lung so as to assist in the d...
متن کاملFinite Element Analysis for CFST Columns under Blast Loading
The columns of frame structures are the key load-bearing components and the exterior columns are susceptible to attack in terrorist blasts. When subjected to blast loads, the columns would suffer a loss of bearing capacity to a certain extent due to the damage imparted which may lead to their collapse and even cause the progressive collapse of the whole structure . The concrete-filled steel col...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling of the Ductile-Brittle Transition
Numerical studies of the ductile-brittle transition are described that are based on incorporating physically based models of the competing fracture mechanisms into the material's constitutive relation. An elastic-viscoplastic constitutive relation for a porous plastic solid is used to model ductile fracture by the nucleation and subsequent growth of voids to coalescence. Cleavage is modeled in ...
