Numerical Investigation of Segregation Evolution during the Vacuum Arc Remelting Process of Ni-Based Superalloy Ingots

Segregation defects greatly affect the service performance and working life of castings during vacuum arc remelting (VAR) process. However, corresponding research on prediction segregation is still not comprehensive. Through considering influence water-cooled crucible electromagnetic field inside an ingot, a full-scale model for comprehensive freckles macrosegregation VAR process developed in this paper. The macroscopic solute transport phenomenon behavior Ni-5.8 wt% Al-15.2 Ta alloy are predicted. results indicate that mainly concentrated lower region ingot. With growth enrichment channels gradually develop into regions, channel evolves macrosegregation. Lorentz force affects flow pattern at top molten pool, while complex multiple vortices dominated by thermosolutal buoyancy. maximum minimum relative ratio ingot can reach 290% ?90%, respectively, positive accounts about 79% total volume.
