Numerical Investigation of Plastic Deformation of Flat Plate for Slamming Impact by Coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian Method

Ships and offshore structures are subjected to impact loads, such as slamming sloshing. High pressures can cause permanent hull deformation by a single event. In addition, significant fatigue damage be accumulated via repeated pressures. this study, the plastic behavior of flat plates under is numerically investigated using coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian method. The dynamic pressure weight drop height assumption viscous compressible fluids. To evaluate plate, contact between water plate removed after certain duration dropping, then remaining measured. Optimized finite element models for simulations selected mesh sensitivity simulation results calibrated compared with experimental data. Results experiment show good agreement in general terms deflection range. However, because initial condition not reflected simulation, some discrepancy observed maximum deflections. Finally, discussion presented more accurate fluid analysis model based on comparison
