Numerical evaluation of a 70-m deep hydropower station foundation pit dewatering

The foundation pit of Yamansu hydropower station has an average depth 70 m and been excavated with five-level slopes. Lowering groundwater level is important in excavation. In this study, drainage pumping were conducted dewatering. Pumping tests performed to reverse hydraulic parameters calibrate numerical models. Numerical simulations evaluate the dewatering scheme. first stage, powerhouse tailrace canal was used as a channel lower level. Drawdown gradient evaluated prevent potential water inrush, erosion, piping, slope failure. second cutoff wall wells reduce influences depth, permeability, thickness evaluated. Dewatering scheme revised accordingly based on evaluation. optimized scheme, which can be reference similar engineering projects, verified successfully.
