Numerical analysis of repaired wall loss defect pipelines for optimum composite wrap thickness

The paper presents the numerical analysis of failure pressure wall loss defect metallic pipelines and validate it with experimental results. An optimization composite thickness for repair pipeline is also carried out using analysis. A nonlinear explicit FE code constitutive models steel material to modelling was used. Three different cases: non-defective pipe, defective pipe repaired are considered. It found that results in good agreement analytical all three cases. theoretical determined by ISO/TS 24817 standard highly conservative compared given thickness. Additionally, study on revealed lower can sustain designed (composite 8.4 mm same instead 16.1 thickness), which implies there scope further reduce thickness, ultimately cost.
