Numbers of Horned Lark (Eremophila alpestris) are increasing at high alpine and arctic breeding sites in Norway

Strong declines in number of breeding Larks alpestris were reported from several Fennoscandian grounds the 1960s and 1970s. Counts species’ high alpine at Hardangervidda, southern Norway early 1980s first couple decades 2000s, its arctic Varanger region, northern period 1996-2021, show a reversal trend. The increase numbers is suggested to have resulted primarily recovery nonbreeding habitat after cessation extensive building embankments prevent flooding German Wadden Sea area, which main wintering area Larks.
