چکیده
We investigate the prediction of turbulent flow around a canonical square cylinder at Re= 22000 solving unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equations. The limitations URANS modelling are overcome through application data assimilation technique involving feedback control term, allowing to drive predictions towards reference data. Using regularly-spaced temporally-resolved that extracted from DNS, we assess abilities methodology in improving predictions. While low-frequency oscillations wake flow, also demonstrate ability recover high-frequency dynamics Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities. influence spatial resolution is systematically investigated. which required improve structures interest related their wavelength. spacing order one length between points, already observe synchronisation vortex shedding leads significant decrease temporal and spectral errors as computed by proper orthogonal decomposition. Comparison of Solution Algorithm for Flow around a Square Cylinder
Numerical accuracy, numerical stability and calculation time are all important factors in the computational fluid dynamics. In this study, we compare two solution algorithms, the Simplified Marker and Cell (SMAC) method in the MAC-type methods and the Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equation (SIMPLE) algorithm in the SIMPLE-type algorithms, with respect to flow around a square cylinder...
متن کاملSequential Data Assimilation by Nudging
Data assimilation is the process of initializing a forecast (for example a weather forecast) from incomplete observation. We consider a system described by system of differential equations where not all degrees of freedom are observable, either because this is not practical, as, for example, in the atmosphere where wind speed and temperature information above ground level is expensive to measur...
متن کاملA nudging-based data assimilation method: the Back and Forth Nudging (BFN) algorithm
This paper deals with a new data assimilation algorithm, called Back and Forth Nudging. The standard nudging technique consists in adding to the equations of the model a relaxation term that is supposed to force the observations to the model. The BFN algorithm consists in repeatedly performing forward and backward integrations of the model with relaxation (or nudging) terms, using opposite sign...
متن کاملMultistability and symmetry breaking in the two-dimensional flow around a square cylinder.
We use numerical methods to study two-dimensional flow passing a square cylinder at low Reynolds numbers, and observe period-1 and -3 vortices behind the cylinder at the same Reynolds number Re. When Re increases from a small number to a critical value Re(c) approximately equal to 320, the system could change from bistability, which maintains the spatial symmetry, to tristability, which breaks ...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation of Turbulent Flow around a Rotating Stepped Cylinder for Corrosion Study
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 81, February 2003 Complex flows with boundary layer separation and reattachment commonly occur in situations of practical interest. In such flows, any accompanying heat or mass transfer is strongly influenced by the fluid dynamics. For example, rates of heat or mass transfer to the wall can have large variations in the reattachment region. In...
