Nose-to-brain delivery of insulin nanoparticles for diabetes management: A review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Hyperglycemia and the onset of insulin resistance or deficiency, both, are hallmarks group diseases known as diabetes. Ultimately, subcutaneous injection is most effective treatment for diabetic patients. However, patients must self-administer at least twice daily rest their lives, this form administration frequently uncomfortable inconvenient. Infections, precipitation, lipoatrophy, lipohypertrophy commonly observed site. To date, nasal, pulmonary, oral methods have been explored. Although stimulation ideal method patients, there several obstacles to overcome, such rapid degradation in stomach limited bioavailability. Various strategies approved improve these parameters, including use enzyme inhibitors, mucoadhesive polymeric agents, absorption-enhancing chemical modifications. Insulin-loaded nanocarriers can bypass numerous physiological limitations. The current review discusses approach nanotechnology nose-to-brain delivery nanoparticles diabetes management.

Nose-to-Brain delivery of insulin for Alzheimer’s disease

The transport of small molecules, peptides and proteins via the olfactory epithelium and along olfactory and trigeminal nerve pathways from the nasal cavity to the brain is very well known and clinically established for central nervous system (CNS) active drugs like oxytocin, sumatriptan or insulin. Insulin is a clinically well-established biopharmaceutical with a validated function in cognitio...

A Review on Nose-to-Brain Drug Delivery

Intranasal route of administration shows potential for delivery of drugs to brain. The nose-to-brain drug delivery of drugs is advantageous as it requires low dose of drug, avoids first pass effect. Also it is fast in action and suitable for the drugs that degrade in gastrointestinal tract. Nose-to-brain delivery also avoids blood brain barrier which is important factor to be considered in form...

Protein aerosol for intranasal nose to brain (N2B) delivery

Background For the treatment of metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases, drug delivery to the central nervous system (CNS) has gained considerable recent interest [1,2]. But many concepts for the delivery of therapeutic agents have failed by the natural blood-brain barrier (BBB). The N2B route for drugs is able to provide an adequate alternative of CNS drug delivery -bypassing the BBB [3,4]. N...
