North American energy system responses to natural gas price shocks

چکیده
As of 2020, North American natural gas extraction and use in the electricity sector have both reached all-time highs. The combination America's increased reliance on with a potential disruption to market has several energy security implications. Additionally, policymakers interested economic resiliency will find this study's results useful for informing implications sectors' long-term planning investment decisions. This paper evaluates how sectors could respond hypothetical price shocks under different system configurations. We impose unforeseen reference alternative configurations resulting from renewable generation mandate or variations capacity costs. Results models are presented separately Canada, Mexico, United States. Generally, US becomes more (less) reliant imports Canada given high (low) shock but increases (decreases) exports Mexico. is demonstrated buffer reductions low dampened less flexibility take advantage low-priced gas. States reduce production net reduction demand.

Investigating the Sustainability of Asian, European and American Regional Gas Markets in Response to Currency and Crude Oil Price Shocks
In this study, we model the long-term and dynamic relationships between spot oil and exchange rates and gas prices by applying the Markov switching vector self-regression model in three regional gas markets in USA, Europe and Asia. Price behavior is analyzed using Bayesian estimation to take into account the transition from an existing relationship and the delayed and recurring effects of pric...
متن کاملEnergy and environment. Methane leaks from North American natural gas systems.
N atural gas (NG) is a potential “bridge fuel” during transition to a decarbonized energy system: It emits less carbon dioxide during combustion than other fossil fuels and can be used in many industries. However, because of the high global warming potential of methane (CH4, the major component of NG), climate benefi ts from NG use depend on system leakage rates. Some recent estimates of leakag...
متن کاملPrice interactions and discovery among natural gas spot markets in North America
Recent advances in modeling causal flows with time series analysis are used to study relationships among eight North American natural gas spot market prices. Results indicate that the Canadian and US natural gas market is a single highly integrated market. Further results indicate that price discovery tends to reflect both regions of excess demand and supply. Across North America, Malin Hub in ...
متن کاملReaction of Stock Market Index to Oil Price Shocks
T his study examines how oil price shocks interact with the stock market index within a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag model in Iran. Based on quarterly data for the period from 1991 to 2017, the findings revealed statistically significant evidence of short-run and long-run asymmetric behavior of stock market index in response to the positive a...
