Nonresonant two-level transitions: Lessons from quantum thermodynamics

نویسندگان

چکیده

Based on concepts from quantum thermodynamics the two-level system coupled to a single electromagnetic mode is analyzed. Focusing case of detuning, where frequency does not match transition frequency, effective energies are derived for levels and photon energy. It shown that these should be used energy exchange with fermionic bosonic reservoirs in steady state order achieve thermodynamically consistent description. While recovering known features such as pulling or Bloch gain, this sheds light their thermodynamic background allows coherent understanding.

Quantum corrections from nonresonant WW scattering

An estimate is presented of the leading radiative corrections to low energy electroweak precision measurements from strong nonresonant WW scattering at the TeV energy scale. The estimate is based on a novel representation of nonresonant scattering in terms of the exchange of an effective scalar propagator with simple poles in the complex energy plane. The resulting corrections have the form of ...

Quantum Phase Transitions of Light for Two-level Atoms

Q phase transition (QPT) can only be accessed at nearabsolute-zero temperatures by changing an external parameter or a coupling constant driven by quantum fluctuations.1 There have been intensive studies of QPTs in interacting many-body problems, originally for strongly correlated electronic systems in condensed matter physics, and more recently for a weakly interacting ultracold atomic system....

Quantum phase transitions in photonic cavities with two-level systems

Systems of coupled photonic cavities have been predicted to exhibit quantum phase transitions by analogy with the Hubbard model. To this end, we have studied topologies of few up to six photonic cavities each containing a single two-level system. Quantum phase space diagrams are produced for these systems, and compared to mean-field results. We also consider finite effective temperature, and co...

Semiclassical dressed states of two - level quantum systems driven by nonresonant and / or strong laser fields

Analytical expressions for the semiclassical dressed states and corresponding quasienergies are obtained for a two-level quantum system driven by a nonresonant and/or strong laser field in a coherent state. These expressions are of first order in a proper perturbative expansion, and already contain all the relevant physical information on the dynamical and spectroscopic properties displayed by ...
