چکیده
Optical gyroscopes based on the Sagnac effect have been mainstay of inertial navigation in aerospace and shipping for decades. These are typically realized either as ring-laser (RLGs) or fiber-optic (FOGs). With recent rapid progress field ultrahigh-quality optical whispering-gallery mode ring microresonators, attention has focused development microresonator-based a more compact alternative to RLGs FOGs. One avenue that explored is use exceptional points non-Hermitian systems enhance responsivity rotation. We similar phenomenon, namely, critical point spontaneous symmetry-breaking transition between counterpropagating light, demonstrate microresonator gyroscope with enhanced by factor around 10 4 . present proof-of-principle rotation measurement well characterization system’s dynamical response, which shows universal behaviors enhancement slowing down, both beneficial an gyroscope. believe this concept could be used realize simple cheap chip-based sensitivities approaching those today’s

Cavity-enhanced laser absorption spectroscopy using microresonator whispering-gallery modes.
Tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy using microresonator whispering-gallery modes (WGMs) is demonstrated. WGMs are excited around the circumference of a cylindrical cavity 125 mum in diameter using an adiabatically tapered fiber. The microresonator is very conveniently tuned by stretching, enabling the locking of an individual WGM to the laser. As the laser is scanned in frequency over ...
متن کاملNonlinear Estimation for Gyroscope Calibration for the Inertial Pseudo Star
The gyroscope calibration problem is addressed for the Inertial Pseudo Star Reference Unit. A nonlinear scale factor error is described by two gyro error states (an amplitude and a decay constant) which enter the dynamics in a nonlinear fashion. A comparison is made between the extended Kalman filter (EKF) and the maximum likelihood system identification (MLSI) method for solving the resulting ...
متن کاملNonlinear static and dynamic behaviors of a microresonator under discontinuous electrostatic actuation
This article studied static deflection, natural frequency and nonlinear vibration of a clamped-clamped microbeam under discontinues electrostatic actuation. The electrostatic actuation was induced by applying AC-DC voltage between the microbeam and electrode plate. In contrast to previous works, it was assumed that length of the electrode plate was smaller than that of the microbeam. In additio...
متن کاملRelativity Gyroscope Experiment ( B ) : Gyroscope Development
The central element of the Stanford relativity experiment is a cryogenic gyroscope with a performance in space many orders of magnitude superior to that of conventional earth-boiind devices. In the early pllases of the program, a great deal of thought wa? given t o the problem of achieving the performance goal, and an entirely new gyro concept was developed by William Fairbank and Francis Everi...

Figure 1: Left: Principle of operation of superconducting microresonator detectors, following[1]. The absorbed photon energy breaks Cooper electron pairs in a thin superconducting film (a) which is part of a lithographed microresonator circuit (b). The breaking of Cooper pairs causes a change in the surface reactance and resistance of the film, leading to a shift in the resonance frequency fr a...
