Nondestructive Forensic Investigation of a Scissor Lift Fatality

After a worker was found fatally pinned between the top rail of scissor lift and an overhead beam, rescue attempts were frustrated by unresponsive controls. In investigation this fatal accident, certain controls did not function or functioned intermittently. The intermittent nature malfunction indicated that evidence sensitive — likely to be disturbed if device disassembled using typical destructive techniques. Therefore, nondestructive techniques required. This study discusses how X-ray imaging, computed tomography (CT), electrical testing, engineering analysis control system used investigate causes contributing factors accident without disturbing evidence.
