Non-teratoid ocular medulloepithelioma in an adult horse

ABSTRACT: This is a case of medulloepithelioma in 14-year-old mixed breed gelding horse, presenting large abnormal mass tissue involving the entire extension right eye. Ophthalmic examination showed deformation and swelling The animal signs pain on palpation organ, but specific systems did not reveal any other changes. Due to apparently neoplastic discomfort experienced by animal, transpalpebral enucleation procedure was decided. excised sent for histopathological analysis, wherein proliferation neuroectodermal cells noted. neoplasm poorly delimited, unencapsulated, infiltrative, sustained moderate fibrovascular stroma, formed cords rosettes with arranged palisades around luminal structures (Flexner-Wintersteiner rosettes), suggestive medulloepithelioma. immunohistochemical profile also performed, confirming diagnosis. were immunolabeled vimentin, S100 protein (S100), neuro enolase (NSE), pan cytokeratin (AE1AE3), glial fibrillary acidic (GFAP), 8/18 (CK8/18). Five months postoperatively, healthy, without relapse or evidence metastasis.
