Non-redundant optical phased array

چکیده
Optical phased array (OPA) is a promising beam-steering device for various applications such as light detection and ranging (LiDAR), optical projection, free-space communication switching. However, the previously reported OPAs suffer from either an insufficiently small number of resolvable points, or complicated control requirement due to extremely large phase shifters. This work introduces novel configuration OPA devices based on non-redundant (NRA) concept. Based this design, we can realize high-resolution whose points scales with N2. In contrast, that traditional only N. Thus, significant reduction in required shifters be attained without sacrificing points. We first investigate impact employing NRA theoretically by considering autocorrelation function layout. then develop Costas-array-based silicon experimentally demonstrate 2D beam steering ~19,000 using 127 corresponds largest achieved sweeping wavelength best our knowledge.

Phased Array of Phased Arrays for Free Space Optical Communications1,2
An aperture composed of multiple small apertures has several advantages over a large continuous aperture when practical issues are included in the analysis. For example, a single bullet can easily produce a catastrophic failure of the laser communication link if all the optical gain for the transmitter (or receiver) is derived from a single large-diameter telescope. In addition to battlefield c...

Commercially available Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) Optical Phase Arrays (OPA) are capable of non-mechanically beamsteering up to ±3 degrees at 1550 nm. While the existing technology is useful for many applications such as laser communications and pulse-shaping, it is desirable to increase the steer angle and decrease the response time of the OPA. This was accomplished through a research ef...

متن کاملPhased array antenna using MEMS phase shifter
This article presents a phased array antenna employing MEMS phase shifter. The proposed phased array antenna consists of eight square patch antennas operating at 10.4 GHz with a bandwidth of 400 MHz. Feed line for each patch passes through a MEMS phase shifter realized by a series of bridges above the transmission line. The distance between the bridge and the transmission line underneath it is ...
