Non-reciprocal wave retarder based on optical rotators combination

چکیده
We propose and demonstrate a method to realize an easily tunable non-reciprocal wave retarder whose phase retardation depends on the light propagation direction. The system is based combination of reciprocal polarization rotator, magneto-optical two quarter-wave plates. Experimental tests various functionalities in complete agreement with underlying theoretical concept.

A subwavelength slit as a quarter-wave retarder.
We have experimentally studied the polarization-dependent transmission properties of a nanoslit in a gold film as a function of its width. The slit exhibits strong birefringence and dichroism. We find, surprisingly, that the transmission of the polarization parallel to the slit only disappears when the slit is much narrower than half a wavelength, while the transmission of the perpendicular com...
متن کاملFabrication Method of Patterned Retarder Based on Electrohydrodynamic Instability
We proposed a fabrication method of the patterned retarder based on the electrohydrodynamic (EHD) instability. The anisotropic flow of the liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) film enables a net force induced by utilizing the distorted electric field. The patterned retarder based on the EHD instability has simple process with an easy control of the phase retardation and no residual LCP. Therefore, ...
متن کاملOn-chip optical isolation in monolithically integrated non-reciprocal optical resonators
Non-reciprocal photonic devices, including optical isolators and circulators, are indispensible components in optical communication systems. However, the integration of such devices on semiconductor platforms has been challenging because of material incompatibilities between semiconductors and magneto-optical materials that necessitate wafer bonding, and because of the large footprint of isolat...
متن کاملNon-reciprocal flexural wave propagation in a modulated metabeam
Flexural wave propagation in an Euler–Bernoulli beam coupled to a set of spring–mass resonators is investigated in the presence of a pump wave in the form of a space–time modulation of the beamresonators coupling stiffness. A phase matching condition implies then that waves incident along or against the pump wave behave differently and gives rise in select frequency bands to one-way blocking an...
