Acoustic Scattering Models of Zooplankton and Microstructure
The research is a balance of theoretical analysis, numerical simulations, and experimentation in the laboratory and local waters at WHOI. The theories are approximate and have included various ray, volume integration, and modal-series-based solutions. An acoustic pulse-echo laboratory is used to collect backscatter data off of the animals and turbulence over a wide range of acoustic frequencies...
متن کاملCharacterization of non-Rayleigh Acoustic Scattering by Elongated Scatterers in the Water Column and on Boundaries
The echo statistics associated with a randomly oriented prolate spheroid randomly located in the sonar beam are modeled. The cases of a smooth and rough spheroid, both in the water column (i.e., case in which boundaries are not involved), and on a boundary are investigated. The modeling begins with the analytical physics-based expression for the scattering amplitude of a smooth prolate spheroid...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional acoustic scattering, conformal mapping, and the Rayleigh hypothesis.
Methods for solving two-dimensional scattering problems using conformal mappings are investigated. It is shown that their convergence relies on a mapped form of the Rayleigh hypothesis. It is concluded that methods based on conformal mappings offer no advantages over established methods in which the scattered field is expanded as a series of circular-cylindrical outgoing wavefunctions.
متن کاملindividual qualities and integrative motivation and their prediction of non-linguistic outcomes of learning english in intermediate iranian students: a psychological perspective
abstract this study investigated the predictability of variables from a motivational framework as well as individuals qualities to predict three non-linguistic outcomes of language learning. gardners socio-educational model with its measures has been used in the current study. individual qualities presented in this study include (1) age, (2) gender, and (3) language learning experience. the...
Rayleigh scattering of acoustic waves in rigid porous media.
This paper describes the long wave scattering effect in gas saturated porous media using the homogenization method. To investigate the deviation from the continuum description, the multiscale asymptotic expansions are developed up to the third order. The leading (zeroth) order leads to the Biot-Allard continuum description. The correction of first order induces nonlocal terms in the dynamic Dar...
