چکیده

Abstract Background The use of a distal cerebral protection device during extracranial carotid artery stenting is still matter debate. aim this work was to evaluate the safety performing procedure without in patients with symptomatic stenosis. A retrospective study performed period from September 2015 till March 2020 including 91 All were treated single stent type (Wall stent® - Boston scientific) device. Pre- and post-procedural clinical assessment national institute health stroke scale (NIHSS). Post brain diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) if clinically indicated within 24 h used determine periprocedural embolization. Results low complication rate found as only one case (1%) showed mild deterioration NIHSS new acute emboli detected DW-MRI. Conclusion Carotid can be safely

Low Common Carotid Artery Systolic Occlusion Pressure and Symptomatic Carotid Artery Stenosis Are Associated with Development of Neurologic Intolerance during Proximal Protected Carotid Artery Stenting

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Neurologic intolerance (NI) is defined as the occurrence of neurological symptoms during carotid artery stenting (CAS). Because NI is inevitable problem, it may be helpful to anticipate its occurrence. So, we studied factors associated with NI during proximal protected CAS. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed all consecutive patients underwent proximal protected CAS ...

International carotid stenting study: protocol for a randomised clinical trial comparing carotid stenting with endarterectomy in symptomatic carotid artery stenosis.

BACKGROUND Carotid stenting avoids general anaesthesia, cranial nerve injury and the discomforts of surgical treatment of carotid stenosis. A systematic review of the randomised trials showed no overall difference in the major risks of endovascular treatment for carotid stenosis compared with surgery, but the confidence intervals were wide and both methods carried a significant risk of stroke. ...

Symptomatic Carotid Artery Stenosis: Surgery, Stenting, or Medical Therapy?

OPINION STATEMENT Symptomatic carotid artery disease is a significant cause of ischemic stroke, and these patients are at high risk for recurrent vascular events. Patients with symptoms of stroke or transient ischemic attack attributable to a significantly stenotic vessel (70-99% luminal narrowing) should be treated with intensive medical therapy. Intensive medical therapy is a combination of p...

Stenting of symptomatic stenosis of the intracranial internal carotid artery.

Percutaneous balloon angioplasty has been reported to be useful in the treatment of intracranial atherosclerotic arterial stenoses; however, arterial dissection with increased risk of stroke has limited its widespread implementation. Although vascular stenting has improved the outcome of similar procedures in the extracranial vasculature, its intracranial application has been limited by the lac...

ANGIOPLASTY AND STENTING OF CAROTID ARTERY STENOSIS WITH EMBOLIC PROTECTION DEVICES

Background: Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has recently been recommended as an alternative to carotid endarterectomy (CEA) by some clinicians. Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the success rate and in-hospital and 30-day adverse events in our first experiences in Iran for CAS with protection devices, to document our results and guide further use of CAS. Methods: From December 2...
