Non-Intrusive Distributed Tracing of Wireless IoT Devices with the FlockLab 2 Testbed

Testbeds for wireless IoT devices facilitate testing and validation of distributed target nodes. A testbed usually provides methods to control, observe, log the execution software. However, most used tracing require code instrumentation change essential properties observed system. Methods that are non-intrusive typically not applicable in a fashion due lack time synchronization or necessary hardware/software support. In this article, we present system validating time-critical software running on multiple does instrumentation, is designed trace state an entire network. For purpose, make use on-chip debug hardware part modern microcontrollers. We introduce architecture as well models accurately synchronize timestamps observations collected by observers. case study, demonstrate how can be applied observe flooding-based low-power communication protocol sensor networks. The presented implemented service publicly accessible open source FlockLab 2 testbed.
