Non-destructive methods applied for in situ mechanical diagnosis: Florentine historical buildings in Pietra Serena

چکیده
Abstract Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS) is a key indicator of the mechanical properties rock, particularly in diagnostic and restoration phases when stones are employed as construction material. In historical buildings, it important to determine UCS values without utilizing tests that involve destructive rock sampling. To estimate UCS, non-destructive techniques, such ultrasonic pulse velocity (Vp) Schmidt hammer (R), can be combined provide useful tool. However, for architectural elements with complex morphology, sometimes impossible perform both sclerometric test. Three different predictive models, one using R only, Vp both, have been developed through regression techniques on dataset comprising 45 Pietra Serena sandstone samples varying levels decay. The models were tested their performance Cross-Validation then applied measured situ corbels balconies belonging buildings Florence (Italy). specific real case studies, rocks used was calculated, enabling definition characteristics building an cultural context, Florentine architecture, testing.

This paper introduces a new approach for the mechanical modelling of historical monuments built of blocks. The computational method, * Non Smooth Contact Dynamics (NSCD), is used to simulate masonry as a large collection of bodies under unilateral constraints and frictional contact. The computational method, NSCD, within an architectural and archeological model, MOMA, **Models and Opticals Meas...
متن کاملFinite Difference Methods Applied to Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Testing Problems
The scattering and reflection of ultrasonic pulses is the basis for ultrasonic non-destructive testing techniques. However problems are encountered in the interpretation of experimental results in many systems especially those which have target dimensions of the order of a wavelength, where there are no analytical solutions. It is shown that the lack of an adequate analytical theory can be over...

Modern architecture has vital impact in Nigerian architecture even though there are somesocio-cultural and religious factors and elements of traditional architecture and use of traditional materials andprinciples of design that still exist. This paper will be discussing on how modern architecture failed in the aspectthe of conservation and restoration of palace buildings which are the focal poi...
