The renewable energy driven electrochemical conversion of nitrates to ammonia is emerging as a viable route for the creation this hydrogen carrier. However, highly efficient electrocatalysts that show prolonged stability an ongoing challenge. Here we room temperature liquid metal Galinstan can be used and stable electrocatalyst nitrate achieving rates up 2335 ?g h?1 cm?2 with Faradaic efficiency 100 %. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations experimental observation indicated activity due InSn alloy enrichment within occurs during electrocatalytic reaction. This high selectivity NH3 also additional suppression competing evolution reaction at identified In3Sn active site. work adds increasing applicability metals based on Ga clean technologies.
