چکیده
Abstract BACKGROUND Differentiating neoplastic and non-neoplastic brain lesions is essential to make management recommendations convey prognosis, but the distinction between tumors their mimics in practice may prove challenging. The aim of this study provide incidence tumor neuro-oncology setting describe patient subset. METHODS Retrospective adult patients referred Division Neuro-oncology for a presumed diagnosis from January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2017, who later satisfied entity based on neuroimaging, clinical course, and/or histopathology evaluation. We classified mimic entities according clinical, radiologic, laboratory characteristics that correlated with diagnosis. RESULTS was 3.4% (132/3897). etiologies were vascular (35%), inflammatory non-demyelinating (26%), demyelinating (15%), cysts (10%), infectious (9%), miscellaneous (5%). In our study, 38% underwent biopsy determine diagnosis, 26%, inconclusive. DISCUSSION Brain represent small important subset referrals. Vascular, inflammatory, two-thirds cases. Recognizing radiologic such improve resource utilization prevent unnecessary as well potentially harmful diagnostic therapeutic interventions.
