N?Heterocyclic Carbene/Carboxylic Acid Co?Catalysis Enables Oxidative Esterification of Demanding Aldehydes/Enals, at Low Catalyst Loading

چکیده
We report the discovery that simple carboxylic acids, such as benzoic acid, boost activity of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysts in oxidative esterification aldehydes. A and efficient protocol for transformation a wide range sterically hindered ?- ?-substituted aliphatic aldehydes/enals, catalyzed by novel readily accessible N-Mes-/N-2,4,6-trichlorophenyl 1,2,4-triazolium salt, acid co-catalyst, was developed. whole series ?/?-substituted aldehydes/enals hitherto not amenable to NHC-catalyzed could be reacted at typical catalyst loadings 0.02–1.0 mol %. For benzaldehyde, even 0.005 % NHC proved sufficient: lowest value ever achieved catalysis. Preliminary studies point acid-induced acceleration acyl transfer from azolium enolate intermediates mechanistic basis observed effect.

Electrocatalytic performance of fuel cell reactions at low catalyst loading and high mass transport.
An alternative approach to the rotating disk electrode (RDE) for characterising fuel cell electrocatalysts is presented. The approach combines high mass transport with a flat, uniform, and homogeneous catalyst deposition process, well suited for studying intrinsic catalyst properties at realistic operating conditions of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC). Uniform catalyst layers were produc...
متن کاملDirect oxidative esterification of alcohols.
Esterification is a fundamental transformation in chemistry. Traditional esterification only largely occurs between carboxylic acid derivatives and alcohols, and often involves multistep processes. Developments in the transition-metal-catalysed and metal-free direct esterification of alcohols under oxidative conditions has opened a door to the efficient, sustainable and environmentally friendly...
متن کاملKinetics of Esterification of Ethylene Glycol with Acetic Acid Using Cation Exchange Resin Catalyst
The esterification of ethylene glycol with acetic acid was investigated in a batch reactor in presence of a strongly acidic cation exchange resin, seralite SRC-120, as catalyst in the temperature range of 333 to 363 K. The detailed kinetic study was performed to understand the effect of various process variables such as catalyst loading, ethylene glycol to acetic acid mole ratio, and temperatur...
متن کاملSolid Acid Catalyst Based on Single-Layer -Zirconium Phosphate Nanosheets for Biodiesel Production via Esterification
In this study, a solid acid was prepared by the sulfonation of surface modified α-zirconium phosphate (ZrP) single-layer nanosheets (SO3H@ZrP), and the prepared solid acid was investigated for the esterification of oleic acid with methanol to produce biodiesel. For comparison, liquid H2SO4 and commercial Amberlyst® 15 catalyst were also evaluated for the same reaction under the same conditions....
