Persistent organic pollutants in soils and sediments from James Ross Island, Antarctica.
Soil and sediment samples from James Ross Island were analyzed for their PCB, OCP and PAH contents. Soil concentrations ranged between 0.51 and 1.82 ng g(-1) for seven indicator PCB congeners, between 0.49 and 1.34 ng g(-1) for HCH congeners, between 0.51 and 3.68 ng g(-1) for the sum of p,p'-DDT, DDE, and DDD, and between 34.9 and 171 ng g(-1) for the sum of 16 EPA PAHs. Sediment levels from 0...

VLČEK VÍTĚZSLAV. 2016. Evaluation of Selected Basic Soil Properties at the James Ross Island (Antarctica). Acta Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 64(3): 919–926. This study attempts to summarize the basic soil properties of the selected places in the deglaciated areas on the James Ross Island (Antarctica). James Ross Island is a large island near the north-easte...
متن کاملCretaceous origin of dogwoods: an anatomically preserved Cornus (Cornaceae) fruit from the Campanian of Vancouver Island
BACKGROUND Cornaceae consists of 58 species, all within the genus Cornus. The Cenozoic record of Cornus is extensive and well documented. Molecular divergence-time studies suggest that crown-group Cornus may have originated by the Late Cretaceous. However, there has been no formal report of Cornus from Cretaceous deposits. Here, we characterize a permineralized fossil fruit assignable to Cornus...

متن کاملGlacial Geology of Cape Bird, Ross Island, Antarctica
Located on the northwest coast of Ross Island in McMurdo Sound, Cape Bird features virtually unweathered surface drift with erratics from the Transantarctic Mountains (TAM) and with enclosed marine shell fragments. This Cape Bird drift is cut by Holocene beaches. The chronology of drift deposition and beach formation comes from AMS radiocarbon dates of associated marine shells, and of penguin b...
