New trends on photoelectrocatalysis (PEC): nanomaterials, wastewater treatment and hydrogen generation

چکیده
The need for novel water treatment technologies has been recently recognised as concerning contaminants (organics and pathogens) are resilient to standard technologies. Advanced oxidation processes degrade organics inactivate microorganisms via generated reactive oxygen species (ROS). Among them, heterogeneous photocatalysis may have reduced efficiency due to, fast electron-hole pair recombination in the photoexcited semiconductor effective surface area of immobilised photocatalysts. To overcome these, process can be electrically assisted by using an external bias, conductive support photocatalyst connected a counter electrode, this is known photoelectrocatalysis (PEC). Compared photocatalysis, PEC increases generation ROS prevention charge between photogenerated pairs thanks electrical bias applied. This review presents recent trends, challenges, nanomaterials different applications (degradation organic pollutants , disinfection hydrogen from wastewater).

It is possible to directly generate electricity using bacteria while accomplishing wastewater treatment in processes based on microbial fuel cell technologies. When bacteria oxidize a substrate, they remove electrons. Current generation is made possible by keeping bacteria separated from oxygen, but allowing the bacteria growing on an anode to transfer electrons to the counter electrode (cathod...
متن کاملImproved charge transportation at PbS QDs/TiO2 interface for efficient PEC hydrogen generation.
The effect of lead sulfide (PbS) quantum dots (QDs) on the photoelectrochemical properties of TiO2 with a varied number of SILAR cycles has been investigated. The study has also highlighted physical processes including band alignment, charge recombination and transportation for a PbS QDs/TiO2 interface. The inclusion of PbS QDs underneath TiO2 thin film has significantly enhanced the PEC respon...
