New (TH)GEM coating materials characterized using spectroscopy methods

In this work GEM and single-hole Thick structures, composed of different coating materials, are studied. The used foils incorporate conductive layers made copper, aluminium, molybdenum, stainless steel, tungsten tantalum. main focus the study is determination material dependence formation electrical discharges in GEM-based detectors. For task, discharge probability measurements conducted with several samples using a basic electronics readout chain. addition to that, optical spectroscopy methods employed light emitted during from foils. It observed that spectra GEMs include emission lines layer material. This indicates presence foil plasma after initial spark. However, no associated while studying spark induced GEMs. concluded does not play substantial role terms stability against primary discharges. strong case secondary formation, pointing molybdenum as one providing increased stability.
