New modelling capabilities to support the ITER EC H&CD System optimisation and preparation of plasma operation

The ITER Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ECRH) & Current Drive (ECCD) system is planned to be progressively installed and commissioned following the four stage approach of Research Plan. Starting with an injection up 5.8 MW from one Upper Launcher (UL) in vacuum vessel assist plasma breakdown during First Plasma (FP) operation, will then extended achieve a capability 20 injected power Pre-Fusion Operation (PFPO) Fusion Power (FPO) phases. Development optical modelling was required characterize performance FP configuration so-called Protection Components. An 3D model using Zemax OpticStudio® has been developed UL. Effects higher order modes, thermal deformations tolerances on UL functionality have characterized are presented. Finally, preparation operation frame EC upgrade layout optimisation, ECRH-ECCD being undertaken within Integrated Modelling Analysis (IMAS) suite.
