چکیده

Abstract Human-assisted introduction of alien plants is causing ecosystem transformations worldwide and considered an important threat to biodiversity. We provide a European assessment habitat levels invasion in heathlands scrub identify successful trends across biogeographical regions. analysed geographically stratified data set 24,220 dwarf shrub vegetation plots sampled Europe. Among the 6547 vascular plant taxa occurring these plots, we identified 311 neophytes (4.8%, i.e. species introduced Europe or its sub-regions after 1500 AD) compared five metrics level (i) EUNIS habitats, (ii) broad groups (iii) regions related habitat-specific elevation climatic variables using generalized linear models. neophytes, phanerophytes non-European origin prevailed. The most frequent were Prunus serotina , Robinia pseudoacacia Quercus rubra among phanerophytes, Impatiens parviflora therophytes, Erigeron canadensis Solidago gigantea hemicryptophytes. Levels significantly differed habitats invaded was Macaronesian lowland scrub, followed by riparian Rubus forest-clearing temperate Europe, coastal dune Atlantic region. low shrublands Arctic Mediterranean decreased with within habitats. Results suggest that insularity, elevation, disturbances, high availability considerable fluctuation resources promote neophyte invasions shrublands.

Gateways to alien invasions in the European seas

The spatial pattern of initial introductions of marine alien species in the European Seas (including the entire Mediterranean) was investigated. Marked geographic patterns depending on the pathway of introduction were revealed, with specific countries acting as gateways to alien invasions. France and Italy were the countries mostly responsible for introductions by aquaculture, while Lessepsian ...

Colonization Credit in Restored Wet Heathlands

Although human-driven landscape modification is generally characterized by habitat destruction and fragmentation, it may also result in the creation of new habitat patches, providing conditions conducive to spontaneous colonization. In this article, we propose the concept of "colonization credit" (i.e., the number of species yet to colonize a patch, following landscape changes) as a framework t...

Of Asian Forests and European Fields: Eastern U.S. Plant Invasions in a Global Floristic Context

BACKGROUND Biogeographic patterns of species invasions hold important clues to solving the recalcitrant 'who', 'where', and 'why' questions of invasion biology, but the few existing studies make no attempt to distinguish alien floras (all non-native occurrences) from invasive floras (rapidly spreading species of significant management concern), nor have invasion biologists asked whether particu...
