Neonatal ascending aorta thrombosis: A case report
Thrombotic events are very unusual in neonatal period. This congenital anomaly may be caused by certain risk factors such as polycythemia, perinatal asphyxia, septicemia, maternal diabetes, dehydration, and low cardiac output, or it may occur upon catheterization of central lines. A 20-day-old neonate was referred to our ward with primary signs of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCMP). Echocardiog...
متن کاملNeonatal thrombosis.
Neonatal thromboembolic events, both arterial and venous, are rare but increasingly recognised problems in tertiary care neonatology. The pathophysiology of these events in the context of the neonatal haemostatic system and the importance of both inherited and acquired prothrombotic disorders remain poorly defined. Similarly, optimal diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in this setting are not...
متن کاملNeonatal aortic arch thrombosis.
An infant presented shortly after birth with signs suggestive of aortic coarctation. Echocardiography revealed an extensive aortic arch thrombus, not amenable to surgery. Thrombolytic agents reduced thrombus size, enabling survival, but failed to prevent neurological damage secondary to cerebral embolisation.
متن کاملManagement of neonatal thrombosis.
Neonates have one of the highest risks for thromboembolism among pediatric patients. This risk is attributable to a combination of multiple genetic and acquired risk factors. Despite a significant number of these events being either life threatening or limb threatening, there is limited evidence on appropriate management strategy. Most of what is recommended is based on uncontrolled studies, ca...
متن کاملImaging of neonatal arterial thrombosis.
The case of a neonate who presented with symptoms of upper limb ischemia related to spontaneous multiple arterial and venous thromboses that were demonstrated by colour Doppler sonography and digital subtracted angiography is reported. The presentation of limb ischaemia at birth may be the warning sign of simultaneous cerebral infarction.
