Negative attitudes and lack of Knowledge towards mental health problems

Introduction Negative thoughts towards mental illness are a global problem for health care professionals. Mainly it leads to late help seeking which aggravates the prognosis of problem, denial this situation, refusing long term medication etc.… Objectives We aim identify determinants leading negative attitudes psychiatric problems among medical students. Methods This is descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study conducted at Faculty Medicine Sfax through an anonymous questionnaire via google Forms. The degree stigmatization was evaluated by score « Attribution Questionnaires AQ-27 ». Results One hundred seven students completed questionnaires. Sex-ratio 0.30 (M/F). percentage first- second-year 24.42%, third 6 th year 34.57% residents 41.01%. Students with personal history disorders presented 45.8% our population those family 40.2%. Medical who studied psychiatry as discipline had internship in department (third residents) lower scores (p=0,003 p=0,002 respectively). Sixty per cent reported that spreading listening cells when needed, media coverage campaigns awareness can us reduce disease’s related stigma.
