Natural wave control in lattices of linear oscillators
The problem of natural wave control involves steering a lattice of oscillators towards a desired natural (i.e. zero-input) assignment of energy and phase across the lattice. This problem is formulated and solved for lattices of linear oscillators via a passivity-based approach. Numerical simulations of 1D and 2D linear lattices and a 1D lattice of nonlinear oscillators confirm the effectiveness...
متن کاملMatter-wave soliton control in optical lattices with topological dislocations
We address the concept of guiding and transporting matter-wave solitons along the channels of optical lattices made by interference patterns of beams containing topological wavefront dislocations. The local lattice distortions that occur around the dislocations cause solitons to move along reconfigurable paths, a phenomenon that may be used for controlled all-optical manipulation of Bose-Einste...
متن کاملFailure of linear control in noisy coupled map lattices
We study a 1D ring of diffusively coupled logistic maps in the vicinity of an unstable, spatially homogeneous fixed point. The failure of linear controllers due to additive noise is discussed with the aim of clarifying the failure mechanism. A criterion is suggested for estimating the noise level that can be tolerated by the given controller. The criterion implies the loss of control for surpri...
متن کاملSoliton control and bloch-wave filtering in periodic photonic lattices.
We suggest a novel approach to soliton control and routing based on Bloch-wave filtering in periodic photonic structures. Taking a binary waveguide array as an example, we demonstrate that spatial solitons that belong to different spectral gaps can be selectively reflected from or transmitted through an engineered defect, which acts as a low- or high-pass filter for Bloch waves.
متن کاملSubmillimeter Backward Wave Oscillators
NASA Lewis Research Center is engaged in a program to develop a series of backward wave osci l la tors (BWO's) for the frequency range 500 to 2000 GHz. Generically BWO's are electron beam travel ing wave tubes operating in a dispersive regime in which the group velocity and the phase veloci ty of the induced electromagnetic wave are in opposite direct ions. The osc i l la t ion frequency of a B...
