Natural radionuclides (NORM) in a Moroccan river affected by former conventional metal mining activities

نویسندگان

چکیده

The main aim of this work was to determine the levels multiple natural radionuclides in an aquatic system (Moulouya river, Morocco) impacted by abandoned Zinc and Lead mines. 238U, 234U, 232Th, 230Th 210Po were determined alpha-particle spectrometry water sediment samples collected along river from three pit lakes mines, located Upper Moulouya catchment area. results enabled analysis different impact former mining activities, depending on radionuclides. While activity concentration U-isotopes slightly elevated vicinity mine wastes, other (Th-isotopes 210Po) typical a environment. This fact is clearly reflected magnitude range observed distribution coefficients for analyzed.

Heavy metal concentration of soils affected by Zn-smelter activities in the Qeshm Island, Iran

In this study, concentrations of heavy metals in soils around a Zn-smelter in Qeshm island, Iran, are investigated. Calculated geoaccumulation index (Igeo), contamination factor (Cf), and contamination degree (Cdeg) values indicate surface soil contamination by toxic metals (As, Cd, Pb, and Zn). The results also indicate that most contaminated areas are located in the vicinity of the smelter an...

Copper Speciation Assessment in Aquatic Ecosystem Affected by Historical Mining Activities

Abrud river is an aquatic ecosystem exposed to anthropogenic influences exerted by long-term mining. This study examines the level of copper concentrations by assessing both total copper content and ionic forms in surface waters and sediments. These components were studied in 10 control sites located in a section of river that has been exposed to acidic mine water spills and leaks. The partitio...

Current Status of Trace Metal Pollution in Soils Affected by Industrial Activities

There is a growing public concern over the potential accumulation of heavy metals in soil, owing to rapid industrial development. In an effort to describe the status of the pollutions of soil by industrial activities, relevant data sets reported by many studies were surveyed and reviewed. The results of our analysis indicate that soils were polluted most significantly by metals such as lead, zi...
