چکیده
Abstract Ingestion of foods and drinking water is considered the leading cause human exposure to radioactive elements that guide internal radiation doses. The concentrations distributions natural radionuclides 238 U, 232 Th, 40 K in samples yellow maize directly consumed KwaZulu-Natal province South Africa were determined estimate possible radiological hazards health. Representative collected from towns six regions analyzed using a Canberra-supplied broad energy hyper pure germanium (HPGe) detector. mean activity 21.3, 26.0, 21.0, 52.0, 53.3, 80.7 Bq/kg for 203.3, 386.7, 183.3, 336.7, 320.0, 526.7 K. Th was not detected any studied locations. estimated effective ingestion doses lifetime cancer risks due U within internationally recommended limits 1 mSv 10 –3 members public. However, values obtained seem high some locations, particularly single diet intake. This finding part baseline information and, general, consumption.

Background: The present work aims to determine the activity concentrations of 226Ra, 233Th and 40K in soil samples collected in Mounana in the Southeastern region of Gabon, to evaluate the contribution of the natural. Materials and Methods: An HPGe p-type detector coupled with a multichannel analyzer DSA-1000 was used to perform measurements and process data. Data acquisition and analysis were ...
متن کاملExploring the Roles of Agricultural Extension in Promoting Food Security in Kwazulu-Natal Province, South Africa
Household food security remains a challenge in South Africa. The national government instituted the Integrated Food Security Strategy (IFSS) programme which identifies household agricultural production as an important element of improving household-level food security. Agricultural extension is well positioned to help achieve this aim, but its current contribution is unknown. This study identif...
متن کاملMeasurement of Natural Radioactivity and Assessment of Associated Radiation Hazards in Soil Samples
Introduction e knowledge of radionuclide distribution and radiation levels in the environment is important for assessing the effects of radiation exposure due to both terrestrial and cosmogenic sources. Terrestrial radiation is due to radioactive nuclides present in varying amounts in soils, building materials, water, rocks and atmosphere. Some of the radionuclides from these sources are trans...
متن کاملNatural radioactivity in ceramic tiles and associated radiological hazards
Background: The natural radioactivity levels in ceramic tiles produced in Turkey were determined and the related radiological hazards were assessed. Materials and Methods: The natural radioactivity levels (226Ra, 232Th and 40K) in the ceramic tiles were measured using high-purity germanium detector system (HPGe) and the related radiological hazards were assessed by radium equivalent activity (R...
