Natural organic matter inhibits Ni stabilization during Fe(II)-catalyzed ferrihydrite transformation

چکیده
Trace metals, such as nickel (Ni), are often found associated with ferrihydrite (Fh) in soil and sediment have been shown to redistribute during Fe(II)-catalyzed transformation of Fh. Fh, however, is inhibited when natural organic matter (NOM) To explore whether NOM affects the behavior Ni we tracked distribution, Fe atom exchange, mineral Fh coprecipitated Suwannee River (SRNOM-Fh). As expected, absence Fe(II), SRNOM-Fh did not transform secondary minerals after two weeks. We further observed little difference adsorption on compared In presence that was more susceptible acid extraction than Specifically, almost double amount remaining mild SRNOM-Fh. XRD showed transformed goethite magnetite whereas despite 57Fe isotope tracer experiments confirmed underwent extensive exchange aqueous Fe(II). Our findings suggest may be sufficient for obvious stabilization necessary occur.

Organic Matter Transformation during Rotary Drum Composting
Organic matter transformation using chemical and spectroscopic methods was studied for composting of four carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio waste combinations (C/N 16, C/N 22, C/N 30 and C/N 38) of grass cuttings, mix vegetable waste, cattle manure, food waste and sawdust. Temperature, moisture content, ash content, total organic matter, C/N ratio and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) concentration...
متن کاملPhotoreduction and stabilization capability of molecular weight fractionated natural organic matter in transformation of silver ion to metallic nanoparticle.
Photoinduced reduction of silver ion (Ag(+)) to silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays a crucial role in the transformation and transport of engineered AgNPs and Ag(+) in aquatic environments. DOM is a mixture of natural polymers with wide molecular weight (MW) distribution, and the roles of specific components of DOM in the photoreduction of Ag(+) to AgNPs are sti...
متن کاملRemoval of natural organic matter from aqueous solutions by electrocoagulation
Natural organic matter (NOM) affects some qualitative parameters of water such as color. In addition, it can deteriorate the performance of water treatment process including coagulation, adsorption, and membranes. NOM also reacts with chlorine in the chlorination process and may form disinfection by-products. The present study was carried out in laboratory-scale in a batch system using a cylind...
متن کاملTransformation of CuO Nanoparticles in the Aquatic Environment: Influence of pH, Electrolytes and Natural Organic Matter
Many studies have shown the effect of solution chemistry on the environmental behavior of metal-based nanoparticles (NPs), except CuO NPs. Here, we investigated the agglomeration, sedimentation, dissolution, and speciation of CuO NPs by varying pH, ionic strength, ionic valence, and natural organic matter (NOM). The results showed that as the pH moved away from 6, the size of CuO agglomerates d...
