چکیده
Photoacoustic (PA) imaging has emerged as a promising technique for real-time detection and diagnosis of brain-related pathologies, due to its advantages in deep penetration ultrasound high resolution optical fluorescence imaging. We herein provide an overview on the latest developments nanoparticles contrast agents specifically designed PA brain tumor, vascular other diseases. Five design considerations high-performance disease are discussed, which include (1) strong absorption NIR or NIR-II window, (2) good biocompatibility, (3) photothermal conversion efficiency, (4) precise nanostructure control, (5) specific targeting capability. Challenges perspectives developing more robust universal enhanced discussed at end.

Gold nanoparticles with tunable absorption and scattering properties have been developed as contrast agents for various optical imaging techniques. As a hybrid modality that combines the merits of both optical and ultrasonic imaging, photoacoustic (PA) imaging also benefits from the use of these nanoparticles to greatly enhance the contrast for visualization of structures and biomarkers in biol...
متن کاملMultifunctional Photosensitizer-Based Contrast Agents for Photoacoustic Imaging
Photoacoustic imaging is a novel hybrid imaging modality combining the high spatial resolution of optical imaging with the high penetration depth of ultrasound imaging. Here, for the first time, we evaluate the efficacy of various photosensitizers that are widely used as photodynamic therapeutic (PDT) agents as photoacoustic contrast agents. Photoacoustic imaging of photosensitizers exhibits ad...
متن کاملA brief account of nanoparticle contrast agents for photoacoustic imaging.
Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) is a hybrid, nonionizing modality offering excellent spatial resolution, deep penetration, and high soft tissue contrast. In PAI, signal is generated based on the absorption of laser-generated optical energy by endogenous tissues or exogenous contrast agents leading to acoustic emissions detected by an ultrasound transducer. Research in this area over the years has s...
متن کاملContrast Agents for Photoacoustic and Thermoacoustic Imaging: A Review
Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) and thermoacoustic imaging (TAI) are two emerging biomedical imaging techniques that both utilize ultrasonic signals as an information carrier. Unique advantages of PAI and TAI are their abilities to provide high resolution functional information such as hemoglobin and blood oxygenation and tissue dielectric properties relevant to physiology and pathology. These two ...
