Nano-ecotoxicology in a changing ocean

چکیده
Abstract The ocean faces an era of change, driven in large by the release anthropogenic CO 2 , and unprecedented entry pollutants into water column. Nanomaterials, those particles < 100 nm, represent emerging contaminant environmental concern. Research on ecotoxicology fate nanomaterials natural environment has increased substantially recent years. However, commonly such research does not consider wider changes that are occurring ocean, i.e ., warming acidification, occurrence co-contaminants. In this review, current literature available combined impacts nanomaterial exposure (i) warming, (ii) (iii) co-contaminant stress, upon marine biota is explored. Here, it identified largely co-stressors influence ecotoxicity altering their behaviour column, thus bioavailability to organisms. By acting way, stressors, able mitigate or elevate toxic effects a material-specific manner. evidence limited relatively small set test materials model Indeed, data biased towards bivalve species. future, expanding studies involve other ecologically significant taxonomic groups, primarily phytoplankton will be highly beneficial. Although number, highlights importance considering co-occurring ecotoxicological research, as likely environment, material interest sole stressor encountered biota. As such, examining alongside stressors essential effectively evaluating risk develop effective long-term management strategies.

Southern Ocean Phytoplankton in a Changing Climate
Phytoplankton are the base of the Antarctic food web, sustain the wealth and diversity of life for which Antarctica is renowned, and play a critical role in biogeochemical cycles that mediate global climate. Over the vast expanse of the Southern Ocean (SO), the climate is variously predicted to experience increased warming, strengthening wind, acidification, shallowingmixed layer depths, increa...
متن کاملDeciphering ocean carbon in a changing world.
Dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the oceans is one of the largest pools of reduced carbon on Earth, comparable in size to the atmospheric CO2 reservoir. A vast number of compounds are present in DOM, and they play important roles in all major element cycles, contribute to the storage of atmospheric CO2 in the ocean, support marine ecosystems, and facilitate interactions between organisms. At t...
متن کاملMicrobial biogeochemistry of coastal upwelling regimes in a changing ocean
711 The coastal upwelling regimes located along the eastern boundaries of the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean basins are small in size, but make a disproportionate contribution to the productivity and microbial biogeochemistry of the ocean. These regimes include the California and Peru/Humboldt current systems in the Pacific, and the Canary and Benguela current systems in the Atlantic. Their charact...
