Brauer Groups

I define the Brauer group of a field k as similarity classes of central simple algebras over k. Then I introduce non-abelean cohomology and use it to prove that the Brauer group is isomorphic to a certain cohomology group. Brauer groups show up in global class field theory.

On the Torsion of Chow Groups of Severi-brauer Varieties

In this paper, we generalize a result of Karpenko on the torsion in the second quotient of the gamma filtration for Severi-Brauer varieties to higher degrees. As an application, we provide a nontrivial torsion in higher Chow groups and the topological filtration of the associated generic variety and obtain new upper bounds for the annihilators of the torsion subgroups in the Chow groups of a la...

Torsion Subgroups of Brauer Groups and Extensions of Constant Local Degree for Global Function Fields

We show that, for all characteristic p global fields k and natural numbers n coprime to the order of the non–p–part of the Picard group Pic0(k) of k, there exists an abelian extension L/k whose local degree at every prime of k is equal to n. This answers in the affirmative in this context a question recently posed by Kisilevsky and Sonn. As a consequence, we show that, for all n and k as above,...

Brauer Groups of Genus Zero Extensions of Number Fields

We determine the isomorphism class of the Brauer groups of certain nonrational genus zero extensions of number fields. In particular, for all genus zero extensions E of the rational numbers Q that are split by Q( √ 2), Br(E) ∼= Br(Q(t)).

Formal Brauer groups and the moduli of abelian surfaces

Let X be an algebraic surface over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic p > 0. We denote by ΦX the formal Brauer group of X and by h = h(ΦX) the height of ΦX . In a previous paper, [6], we examined the structure of the stratification given by the height h in the moduli space of K3 surfaces, and we determined the cohomology class of each stratum. In this paper, we apply the methods ...
