Cocaine-Induced Delayed Myocardial Infarction Complicated by Apical Thrombus
It is well demonstrated in the literature that cocaine use has been well linked to the formation of various forms of acute and chronic cardiovascular problems including but not limited to acute coronary syndromes. However, cocaine has been commonly associated with coronary vasospasms and less commonly with myocardial infarction and the formation of atrial thrombus. Through this case presentatio...
متن کاملLeft ventricular thrombus in acute myocardial infarction.
Catastrophic morbidity or mortality from cardiogenic cerebral embolism occurs in approximately 2000 cases each year in the Netherlands'. Left ventricular thrombus after myocardial infarction is a source of such emboli which is largely preventable by systemic anticoagulation. However, anticoagulants induce a bleeding risk and must be given only when the risk of embolism is increased''. Two-dimen...
متن کاملMyocardial Infarction with Ruptured Left Ventricle
Myocardial rupture is one of the major complications of myocardial infarction. This report is of a patient with myocardial rupture complicating myocardial infarction. As well as reviewing the clinical details of myocardial rupture, the ability of contrast computed tomography scan to diagnose acute myocardial infarction is
متن کاملThrombus formation in the left ventricle after large myocardial infarction – assessment with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.
INTRODUCTION Left ventricular thrombus (LVT) formation may worsen the post-infarct outcome as a result of thromboembolic events. It also complicates the use of modern antiplatelet regimens, which are not compatible with long-term oral anticoagulation. The knowledge of the incidence of LVT may therefore be of importance to guide antiplatelet and antithrombotic therapy after acute myocardial infa...
متن کاملLong term follow up of patients with anterior myocardial infarction complicated by left ventricular thrombus in the thrombolytic era.
OBJECTIVES To examine the appearance and resolution of left ventricular thrombi and to study the relation between thrombus and mortality during long term follow up after anterior myocardial infarction. DESIGN Ninety nine consecutive patients were prospectively studied until the last included patient had been followed for one year. Streptokinase and aspirin were used routinely, anticoagulants ...
