Musculoskeletal Disorders among Traditional Bangladeshi Fishermen

Background: Fishing is one of the most important economic activities in riverine Bangladesh. We studied musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among Bangladeshi fishermen which generally high.Objective: To study patterns and extend MSDs fishermen.Materials Methods: A total 150 enrolled with at least six months employment history attended out-patient department Physical Medicine Rehabilitation Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College Hospital Sirajganj district, Bangladesh, this cross-sectional using a random sampling procedure. The Nordic Questionnaire was used to assess work-related disorders. determine significance age, BMI working experience pain discomfort different regions body, Pearson Correlation test done.Results: Musculoskeletal disorder due extreme physical demand during hauling fishing nets on raft Jamuna River its tributaries prevalence significantly higher. All body region were affected by problems, them highest found lower back lowest upper (37.3%) region. There significant associations age wrist (P=0.039), (0.025) knee (0.021). no association any or discomfort. Total had within last 12 shoulder (p=0.008), (0.023), (0.022) (0.001).Conclusion: Long hours traditional boat age-old equipments adopting inconvenient ergonomic posture can lead high problems fishermen.
