چکیده
The interaction between the interplanetary medium and planetary environments gives rise to different phenomena on several temporal spatial scales. Here, we propose for first time, application of Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) characterize both local global properties Mercury's environment as seen during two Mercury Surface, Space Environment, Geochemistry Ranging (MESSENGER) flybys. In particular, compute energy-time-frequency distribution observed magnetic field components reconstruction these signals at large, magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) kinetic scales through empirical mode decomposition. We show that HHT analysis allows capture reproduce some interesting features Hermean such flux transfer events (FTEs), Kelvin-Helmholtz vortices, ultralow frequency (ULF) wave activity. Moreover, our findings support ion nature plasma structures, characterization magnetosheath by anisotropic ion-kinetic intermittent fluctuations, superimposed MHD fluctuations large-scale structure. Our approach has proven be very promising characterizing structure dynamics scales, identifying boundaries, discriminating scale-dependent source processes can used modeling purposes.

Lagrangian single-particle turbulent statistics through the Hilbert-Huang transform.
The Hilbert-Huang transform is applied to analyze single-particle Lagrangian velocity data from numerical simulations of hydrodynamic turbulence. The velocity trajectory is described in terms of a set of intrinsic mode functions C(i)(t) and of their instantaneous frequency ω(i)(t). On the basis of this decomposition we define the ω-conditioned statistical moments of the C(i) modes, named q-orde...
متن کاملNear-Term Travel Speed Prediction Utilizing Hilbert-Huang Transform
Accurate short-term prediction of travel speed as a proxy for time is central to many Intelligent Transportation Systems, especially for Advanced Traveler Information Systems and Advanced Traffic Management Systems. In this study, we propose an innovative methodology for such prediction. Because of the inherently direct derivation of travel time from speed data, the study was limited to the use...
متن کاملOn the Hilbert-Huang Transform Theoretical Developments
One of the main heritage tools used in scientific and engineering data spectrum analysis is the Fourier Integral Transform and its high performance digital equivalent the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). Both carry strong a-priori assumptions about the source data, such as linearity, of being stationary, and of satisfjmg the Dirichlet conditions. A recent development at the National Aeronautics an...
متن کاملDetection and Classification of EEG Epileptiform Transients with RBF Networks using Hilbert Huang Transform-derived Features
Diagnosis of epilepsy or epileptic transients AEP (Abnormal Epileptiform Paroxysmal) is tedious, but important, and an expensive process. The process involves trained neurologists going over the patients EEG records looking for epileptiform discharge like events and classifying it as AEP (Abnormal Epileptiform Paroxysmal) or non-AEP. The objective of this research is to automate the process of ...
متن کاملThe Hilbert-Huang Transform: theory, applications, development
Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) is a data analysis tool, first developed in 1998, which can be used to extract the periodic components embedded within oscillatory data. This thesis is dedicated to the understanding, application, and development of this tool. First, the background theory of HHT will be described and compared with other spectral analysis tools. Then, a number of applications will b...
