Multiplexed illumination for classifying visually similar objects

چکیده

Distinguishing visually similar objects like forged/authentic bills and healthy/unhealthy plants is beyond the capabilities of even most sophisticated classifiers. We propose use multiplexed illumination to extend range that can be successfully classified. construct a compact RGB-IR light stage images samples under different combinations illuminant position colour. then develop methodology for selecting patterns training classifier using resulting imagery. model synthetically relight samples, greedy pattern selection scheme exploits this ability train in simulation. apply trained carry out fast classification new objects. demonstrate approach on artificial real fruit showing marked improvement compared with fixed-illuminant approaches as well more conventional code scheme. This work allows previously indistinguishable objects, potential applications forgery detection, quality control agriculture manufacturing, skin lesion classification.

A Theory of Multiplexed Illumination

Imaging of objects under variable lighting directions is an important and frequent practice in computer vision and image-based rendering. We introduce an approach that significantly improves the quality of such images. Traditional methods for acquiring images under variable illumination directions use only a single light source per acquired image. In contrast, our approach is based on a multipl...

Centrum Voor Wiskunde En Informatica Metrics for Classifying Heterogeneous Objects Metrics for Classifying Heterogeneous Objects

We propose and discuss distance measures to compare objects that have heterogeneous sets of characteristics, such as encountered in, for example, medical diagnosis and information retrieval. We treat both boolean-valued and (scaled) real-valued characteristics. Weighting of characteristics is accomodated. The paper is a modiied and extended version of 1].

objects are visually salient

How do we decide which objects in a visual scene are more interesting? While intuition may point toward high-level object recognition and cognitive processes, here we investigate the contributions of a much simpler process, low-level visual saliency. We used the LabelMe database (24,863 photographs with 74,454 manually outlined objects) to evaluate how often interesting objects were among the f...

Surface Reflectance Classifying under Natural Illumination

Though a point light source is more suitable to measure the BRDF of the surface, the natural illuminations in the real-world are not point light source and very complex. Fortunately, the complex natural illuminations exhibit some statistical regularity [3]. These statistical properties of the natural illuminations lead to predictable image statistics for a surface with given reflectance propert...
