Multimodel Ensemble Projections of Wave Climate in the Western North Pacific Using CMIP6 Marine Surface Winds

چکیده

For decades, the western North Pacific (WNP) has been commonly indicated as a region with high vulnerability to oceanic and atmospheric hazards. This phenomenon can be observed through general circulation model (GCM) output from Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP). The CMIP consists of collection ensemble data well marine surface winds for projection wave climate. Wave climate projections based on dataset are necessary ocean studies, forecasts, coastal development over WNP region. Numerous studies earlier phases abundant, but using CMIP6 recent is still limited. Thus, in this study, WAVEWATCH III conducted investigate how characteristics will have changed 2050 2100 compared those 2000 forcings winds. runs 0.5° × spatial resolution spherical coordinates 10-min time step. A total eight GCMs used modelled 3 h 2100. simulated average validated ERA5 Reanalysis showing good consistency. show that significant decreases height, clockwise shift direction, mean period becomes shorter relative 2000.

Assessment of Climate Change and Atmospheric CO2 Impact on Winter Wheat in the Pacific Northwest Using a Multimodel Ensemble

Simulations of crop yields under climate change are subject to uncertainties whose quantification is important for effective use of projected results for adaptation and mitigation strategies. In the US Pacific Northwest (PNW), studies based on single crop models and weather projections downscaled from a few general circulation models (GCM) have indicated mostly beneficial effects of climate cha...

Identification of Linear Climate Models from the CMIP3 Multimodel Ensemble

In this paper, we investigate an ensemble of atmosphere–ocean general circulation models (AOGCMs) participating in phase 3 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP3), and whose dynamic behavior is emulated by the reduced-complexity climate model MAGICC6. Using a superimposed impulse in solar radiative forcing for the purposes of system identification, we identify 12 AOGCMs in the CMIP...

Inflated Uncertainty in Multimodel‐Based Regional Climate Projections

Multimodel ensembles are widely analyzed to estimate the range of future regional climate change projections. For an ensemble of climate models, the result is often portrayed by showing maps of the geographical distribution of the multimodel mean results and associated uncertainties represented by model spread at the grid point scale. Here we use a set of CMIP5 models to show that presenting st...

Northerly surface winds over the eastern North Pacific Ocean in spring and summer

[1] Persistent spring and summer northerly surface winds are the defining climatological feature of the western coast of North America, especially south of the Oregon coast. Northerly surface winds are important for upwelling and a vast array of other biological, oceanic, and atmospheric processes. Intermittence in northerly coastal surface wind is characterized and wind events are quantitative...

Origin of the Summertime Synoptic-Scale Wave Train in the Western North Pacific*

The origin of the summertime synoptic wave train in the western North Pacific is investigated with a multilevel, nonlinear baroclinic model. A realistic three-dimensional summer mean state is specified and eigenvectors are calculated by introducing small perturbation initially to the model. Numerical experiments indicate that the origin of the synoptic wave train may arise from instability of t...
