Multicomponent nanoparticles as means to improve anaerobic digestion performance

Sufficient quantity of trace metals is essential for a well performing anaerobic digestion (AD) process. Among the elements in active sites multiple important enzymes AD are iron and nickel ions. In present study, form Fe2O3 NiO were coated on TiO2 nanoparticles to be used batch continuous operation mode. The effect TiO2, Fe2O3–TiO2, NiO–TiO2 each step process was assessed utilizing simple substrates (i.e. cellulose, glucose, acetic acid, mixture H2–CO2) as complex ones municipal biopulp). hydrolysis rate cellulose substrate increased with higher dosages both metals. For instance, up 54% at Fe2O3–TiO2 concentration 23.5 mg/L it 58%, while dosage suppressed hydrolytic activity. Experimental results revealed that low accumulated methane production 24% probably by increasing enzymatic activity acetoclastic methanogenesis. showed positive biopulp improved yield 8%.
