Multichromatic fluorescence towards aberrant proteinaceous aggregates utilizing benzimidazole-based ICT fluorophores

The pathological origin of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) remains uncharted terrain, despite intensive investigation. Discriminating aberrant proteinaceous deposits, such as ?-amyloid (A?) and (hyperphosphorylated) tau protein by imaging methods, is a vital tool to support investigations towards the network interacting features that results in AD pathology. In this context, multispectral fluorescence (MSFI) has drawn much attention enabling distinction several analytes with merely single fluorophore emitting multichromatic fluorescent signal. Herein, we developed three kinds benzimidazole-derived dyes, BZ1–BZ3. photophysical properties intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) characteristics probes were evaluated various solvents. Furthermore, benzimidazole-associated polar-sensitivity displayed behavior enabled visualization minute differences microenvironmental polarity between A? aggregates, resulting different maximal emission wavelengths. Indeed, BZ2 demonstrated an approximately 30 nm bathochromic shift emission. All these observations offer potential for development future generation ICT-based probes.
