Optimum driving a Z-pinch for soft X-Ray lasers
A capillary plasma z-pinch as an alternative active medium of soft X-Ray lasers was studied experimentally and theoretically. The theoretical analysis was based on the self consistent solution of the so called “snow plow” model. The dynamics of pinched plasma is determined by the capillary parameters and by the time dependence of electrical current passing through it. The current time dependenc...

متن کاملCharacterization of a mid-sized Li foil multi-wire proportional counter neutron detector
A 550 cm thermal neutron detector was constructed with five parallel sheets of 75 mm thick Li foil (95% enrichment) spaced 1.63 cm apart. Anode wire banks containing a plurality of anode wires were strung on both sides of each foil, six banks in total. The chamber was backfilled with P-10 proportional gas and over-pressured to 1.1, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.8 atm (111, 151, 202, and 284 kPa). The design ...
متن کاملGas Scintillation Proportional Counters for High-Energy X-ray Astronomy
A focal plane array of high-pressure gas scintillation proportional counters (GSPC) for a balloon-borne hard-x-ray telescope is under development at the Marshall Space Flight Center. These detectors each have an active area of ~ 20 cm, and are filled with a high pressure (10 Pa) xenon-helium mixture. Imaging is via crossed-grid position-sensitive phototubes sensitive in the UV region. The perfo...
متن کاملSoft-x-ray projection lithography
Soft-x-ray projection imaging is demonstrated by the use of 14-nm radiation from a laser plasma source and a single-surface multilayer-coated ellipsoidal condenser. Aberrations in the condenser and the Schwarzschild imaging objective are characterized and correlated with imaging performance. A new Schwarzschild housing, designed for improved alignment stability, is described.
