Multi-replica biased sampling for photoswitchable ?-conjugated polymers

In recent years, pi-conjugated polymers are attracting considerable interest in view of their light-dependent torsional reorganization around the backbone, which determines peculiar light-emitting properties. Motivated by designing conjugated with tunable photoswitchable pathways, we devised a computational framework to enhance sampling conformational space and at same time estimate ground excited-state free-energy differences. This scheme is based on combination Hamiltonian Replica Exchange (REM), Parallel Bias metadynamics, perturbation theory. our scheme, each REM replica samples an intermediate unphysical state between first two excited states, characterized TD-DFT simulations B3LYP/6-31G* level We applied method 5-mer 9,9-dioctylfluorene found that upon irradiation this system can undergo dihedral inversion from 155 -155 degrees crossing barrier decreases 0.1 eV (S0) 0.05 0.04 (S1) second (S2) states. Furthermore, S1 even more S2 were predicted stabilize coplanar dihedrals, local minimum located +-44 degrees. The presence 0.08 for 0.12 trap conformation basin far global simulation results compared experimental emission spectrum, showing quantitative agreement predictions provided framework.
