چکیده
Abstract From April to July 2021, West Crater at Iwo-Yama, Kirishima Volcanic Complex, Japan, was repeatedly filled with hydrothermal water and subsequently evacuated. The overall cycle lasted 14–70 h, the course of a single followed this sequence phases: (i) steam effusion disappeared 20–40 min before discharge; (ii) discharge occurred, generating pool; (iii) resumed gradually increased; (iv) drain-back (evacuation) occurred 1–1.5 h onset next discharge. We used multi-parametric observations (optical camera, thermometer, electric self-potential (SP) electrodes, seismometer, acoustic sensor, tiltmeter) investigate cause cyclic A change in SP data approximately 2 However, small when did not occur. temporal is inferred have been caused by groundwater flow through region below Crater, implying that occurring polarity suggests flowed toward underlying vents. Geochemistry of Talkh-rud Sub-volcanic Intrusion, Damavand Volcano
The study subvolcanic intrusion, comprising syenodiorite, monzonite and quartz-monzonite, is cropped out in Talkh-rud valley located in the northeast of Damavand volcano flank. This sub-volcanic intrusion possesses porphyritic texture and consists of plagioclase, alkali feldspars, phelogopite, amphibole, clinopyroxene, apatite and titanomagnetite. Evidences of disequilibrium such as zoning and ...
متن کاملA large hydrothermal reservoir beneath Taal Volcano (Philippines) revealed by magnetotelluric observations and its implications to the volcanic activity
Taal Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. The magnetotelluric 3D forward analyses indicate the existence of a large high resistivity anomaly (∼100 Ω·m) with a volume of at least 3 km×3 km×3 km, which is capped by a conductive layer (∼10 Ω·m), beneath the Main Crater. This high resistivity anomaly is hypothesized to be a large hydrothermal reservoir, consisting of the ...
متن کاملSalt shell fallout during the ash eruption at the Nakadake crater, Aso volcano, Japan: evidence of an underground hydrothermal system surrounding the erupting vent
A hot and acid crater lake is located in the Nakadake crater, Aso volcano, Japan. The volume of water in the lake decreases with increasing activity, drying out prior to the magmatic eruptions. Salt-rich materials of various shapes were observed, falling from the volcanic plume during the active periods. In May 2011, salt flakes fell from the gas plume emitted from an intense fumarole when the ...
متن کاملContinuous thermal monitoring of the 2008 eruptions at Showa crater of Sakurajima volcano, Japan
An infrared thermal monitoring system installed 3.5 km from the Showa crater of Sakurajima volcano, Japan, enabled the capture of continuous thermal waveform data at 1 Hz during two recent episodes of eruptive activity. The eruptions were characterized by a sudden increase in volcanic cloud temperature in the first 2–5 s, followed by gradual cooling over a few minutes. The maximum cloud tempera...
متن کاملEcophysiology of Zetaproteobacteria Associated with Shallow Hydrothermal Iron-Oxyhydroxide Deposits in Nagahama Bay of Satsuma Iwo-Jima, Japan
Previous studies of microbial communities in deep-sea hydrothermal ferric deposits have demonstrated that members of Zetaproteobacteria play significant ecological roles in biogeochemical iron-cycling. However, the ecophysiological characteristics and interaction between other microbial members in the habitat still remain largely unknown. In this study, we investigated microbial communities in ...
